Description

Sesame, (Sesamum indicum), also called benne, erect annual plant of the family Pedaliaceae, The sesame plant is widely cultivated in most of the tropical, subtropical, and southern temperate areas of the world. Harvested seeds are sorted, graded, packed and stored. The aroma and taste of sesame seed are mild, nutty and with crunchy texture. Sesame seeds contain 44 to 60% of oil therefore oil can be extracted. The oil is very stable and it resists oxidative rancidity. The seeds are also high in protein and are rich in thiamin and vitamin B6.
