MgCl₂ Food grade crystals (>99% pure) is a pure magnesium chloride hexahydrate (MgCl2.6H2O) which can be used in a wide variety of food products and applications. Magnesium chloride is a natural alternative to traditional table salt (sodium chloride), with excellent possibilities in lowering the sodium content without loss of taste and functionalities.
It is used as sodium replacement in bakery, dairy and meat applications as well as a coagulant in tofu production, as electrolyte in production of sport drinks, and as a flavouring agent. Adding magnesium chloride to food and drinks could make them a source of magnesium while lowering sodium content.
The product meets or exceeds the requirements of current EU Food Additive Regulation (E511). The product is highly soluble in water by an exothermic reaction, and is very hygroscopic (able to attract moisture from air).
